What is whiplash?

Whiplash is a common neck injury after a car wreck. When moving at high speed, the neck can jam forward then back quickly and cause a variety of injuries to the neck and shoulders. If left untreated, whiplash can cause bone, ligament, and disc damage to the neck and spine. Recovery time is often positively correlated to how early treatment is begun for those suffering from a whiplash injury. The doctors at Quality Chiropractic are skilled in detecting and treating all forms of whiplash and can prescribe treatments that will alleviate pain and discomfort caused by this injury.

What are symptoms of whiplash?

Whiplash can be diagnosed from multiple symptoms including neck tightness, headache, radiating pain that seems to travel down a consistent path, pain when holding the head in specific positions, or a stabbing pain in a specific area of the neck. Additionally, although pain may subside, untreated damage from whiplash can still occur. While not all who are in car accidents experience whiplash, it’s quite common in accidents that involve head on or rear end collisions. As conditions of the neck tend to deteriorate when left untreated, patients who have recently been in a car accident or have had their head fly around after a heavy contact would be prudent to contact Quality Chiropractic to ensure that their neck is treated and corrected.

How does chiropractic care treat whiplash?

The doctors at Quality Chiropractic are well trained and experienced in treating all forms of whiplash. Mild whiplash can be treated through routine cervical adjustments. Moderate whiplash may require massage, electro stimulation, cervical adjustments, and physical therapy. Extreme whiplash may call for immobilization of the neck by a cervical collar until the neck is able to regain some of its function. While no one wants to experience whiplash, the doctors at Quality Chiropractic want to ensure that those who have experienced whiplash can also experience relief from pain and discomfort.
